Career Guidence is a great subject to do in LCA.  It give you a better idea of what you wanna do when you leave school, and it also tells you how to get into the job you want, whether you have to do a PLC course or an appreticeship.

This subject teaches about the LCA course and what it's about.  It is completely different to the normal Leaving Cert.  It is a distinct self-contained two-year Leaving Certificate programme aimed at preparing students for adult and working life.  It provides an opportunity to develope personal and practical skills and to emphasise vocational preperation.  It developes skills such as well as commuications, teamwork and enterprise as well as practical vocational skills.  It is innovative in the way it is taught, the way students learn and the way they are assessed.

It is recognised by a wide variety of employers.  It is also great preperation for apprenticeships, training and Post Leaving Cert courses.  While it is not recognised for direct entry to Third Level Education and no points are awarded for it, students can gain access into further and higher education through Post Leaving Cert courses.

Employment Prospects ?

Employment prospect for school leavers have seldom been better than they are at present.  Students with the range of skills and relevent work experience from the Leaving Cert Applied students.  They are also well placed to compete for the wide range of FAS & CERT apprenticeships.

Further Education ?

A student can proceed to further eduacation through the vast majority of PLCs.  However there are a small number of PLC courses where additional requirements are imposed by external professional bodies/associations.

Third Level ?

Direct access to Third Level Education through the CAO system is not possible immediatly on completion of the LCA.  However, students who complete the LCA course and progress on to a NCVA Level 2 award, can become eligible for admission to some third level courses in the Institutes of Technology.

In the second year of the LCA course you do a mini company project.  There is different jobs for the mini company just like a real company. You also have to do interviews for the different jobs.
